A little too much CSI

My husband I like to watch crime solving shows. As we do realize that they are not appropriate for small children, we will either wait until they are in bed or we watch them while they are actively playing in the other room. On occasion, however, the children have wandered into the room during the show which gets one of 2 reactions, depending on which child it is... 1) Nothing. This is from the 3 year old. He says nothing and does nothing, it's like it doesn't even phase him, but then, later he does pretend to shoot things. AND 2) a whole bunch of questions from the 6 year old. He first wants to know if the show is real. Then he wants to know how the person died and who killed them. He then wants to know all about the science that they are using to find the killer. We are honest with him as much as possible, the questions are usually answered like this: No, it's not real, it's all just pretend, no one is really dead. In the pretend show the lady died because someone shot her with a gun, that's why guns are a bad idea, they hurt people. We don't know who killed her yet, that's what they are trying to figure out. I don't know how the chemicals all work, but it's really cool to watch. Then, he either stays for a few minutes (by this time the gruesome stuff (usually all at the beginning) is over and it's all science and crime solving anyway, or he goes back to whatever he was doing before.

The other night, at 2:30AM, I get woken up by a very upset 6 year old. He taps me rapidly on the shoulder, and in a very nervous, half crying, half worried voice says:
"Mommy, Mommy, Oh, oh, I am bleeding out, I AM BLEEDING OUT!!"
My first inclination was to stop and explain to him that "bleeding out" means that you are loosing all of your blood and are going to die, but I didn't say anything and just calmed him down and helped him clean up his foot. As I did this it occurred to me by how upset he was that he already knew that "bleeding out" meant losing all of your blood and that in his mind, the fact this small scab had come off, meant he was going to die. Don't worry, we applied pressure and stopped the bleeding. We expect him to make a full recovery.

WhoopsWii... sorry, Baby!

I was trying to get the boys to do something active today, so we turned on the Wii, or rather, switched games on the already turned on Wii. So, there we were playing Wii Sports and I was trying to finish a game of tennis when the baby crawled over wanting attention. So, I picked her up, without missing a ball, I might add. Then after about 2 or 3 more hits, I needed to back hand. Well, there she was right there and pretty much hit her strait on with the remote. I did hit the ball, though... So, sorry baby. She cried a little, but for the most part, she was fine. I didn't hit her hard and the remote has a really thick, squishy cover on it, to protect the remote and babies, I guess. I was wondering if I have grounds for a lawsuit, because they do tell you to make sure there is plenty of room between you and others sitting or standing around you, but they DO NOT tell you that you shouldn't hold babies while playing... Hmmm.

Why are there so many pictures of my cute baby and why am I so obnoxious with them??

I was talking to Paige about our little babies and she told me I should enter Baby into a "cute baby" contest. I have to submit the picture soon, but can't decide. So, I have divided the pictures into 3 groups, 4 if you count the waffle pictures. You can look over them and vote. Please let me know which picture you like best that I should submit, it should be the picture that makes you think, "that is one cute baby, in fact, she should be on the cover of a magazine."

Now, there are many pictures (200, if you count the waffle ones) and obviously not all of them are suitable for the contest, so you may be wondering why I didn't just pick my favorites... 2 reasons:
1) My parents live in another country, and several family members live in other states, they don't get to see the baby very often and I wanted them to get a feel for her personality, so I included the majority of the pictures from the photo shoot, even if they don't even show her face.
2) I didn't want to rule any pictures out, one that I think she looks plain in may be the one that everyone else loves.

So, vote away. Please note that the photo has to be sent in sometime tomorrow. So hurry and vote. I'll post the winning picture when I get a chance. You can vote by saying: Slide Show __ Picture ___, the one where she is ____...

Thanks.

And no comments how my pictures don't have good lighting, how there are some "harsh shadows" or it was a bad time of day to take pictures, how I was using the wrong lens or wrong shutter speed. okay, thanks...

My first waffle and a baseball

I know, it's obnoxious to post a billion pictures of your baby doing the same thing, but I made them slide past quickly. She was just so expressive and the natural lighting was great so I had to take a billion pictures of her and here are 50 of them! This was a couple of weeks ago, sometime around Christmas...

Toothless Wonder No More...

After having "All I want for Christmas is My 2 Front Teeth" as a holiday theme song, Baby's tooth finally broke through last Friday (a week ago). She was horribly cranky for several days, including Christmas Eve and somewhat on Christmas. She was much happier on Friday afternoon and so I checked her mouth and there it was. For future reference, as likely I will need this for her baby book, it was the bottom tooth, my right/her left side. She's fairly happy right now, but while feeling the new tooth, I felt the tooth next to it starting to come up, so we may be starting the whole thing over in the next few days... Yeah! Congratulations Miana!

Well, Wii did it!

After rave reviews from parents and children of all ages, Wii decided to give in and get a video game system. Last Thursday, Wii were in Winchester and needed to stop by Toys R Us to get something else but decided to ask if they had one. Wii were shocked to find that they did and because Wii had already talked about it and how it would be fun for everyone, Wii went ahead and bought it. Yes, it was expensive, but so far, worth every penny. Wii have been having tons of fun and it has been total family time.
So, for those of you that have been checking the blog and have been wondering why I am slow to post these days... you can blame the Wii.

My favorite story from yesterday with a 2 part background

Part 1: Potty Training
We are trying to potty train my 3 1/2 year old... yes, I know, many of you are thinking, "3 1/2? My kids were all potty trained by 6 months, what is she thinking?!?" Truth is, child number one was slow to potty train and when he was ready, it was just a decision he made and POOF! all done, besides an accident or two and the tendancy he had to want to go in various places (on purpose) he was done. He never had a, um, how should I say it, an accident with #2 in his underwear and has NEVER wet the bed. So, I was feeling like this was a good way to potty train, just wait until they are ready and POOF!
But child number 2 is at the same age and had no indication at all that he would ever be ready, so we started to "train" him. He has been in "pull ups" for several months now because he can get them off quickly and take himself to the bathroom, which he does regularly, not consistently, but regularly (anytime he wants some chocolate chips.) He does not do as well for when he has to um, poop. We are often changing poopy pull ups, which makes me very happy for the person that decided to make the sides velcro. Yeah for people that think things through!

Part 2: My favorite question
I have a favorite question that I like to ask Carter because the answers are always so fun... "Why did you do that?" Yes, it's a scary question to ask a 3 year old, but I do like to hear the answer. Most of the time the answers don't really make sense to the question, below are some common answers to the question...
Q: "Why did you hit your sister?" A 1: "Because I love her." A 2: "Because I had to."
Q: "Why did you throw that toy?" A 1: "Because I didn't want you to be mad at me." A 2: "Because I didn't want you to spank my bum."

Now to the story:
Yesterday, I was upstairs getting ready for the day and Carter came in to my bedroom. I could smell him immediately. Here is the conversation...
Me: Did you go poo-poo in your diaper?
Carter: Ummm, yes.
Me: Why did you do that?
Carter: I wanted to surprise you.

Hummm...
